​Vehdance & Movement is a contemporary dance company based in Elvaston, Derby, offering engaging and inspiring dance classes for children and young people.Our mission is to build a community rooted in belonging, connection, and trust through dance and movement. We encourage self-expression, individuality, and creativity while nurturing confidence and fostering a sense of pride within our local community. Meet Our Founder: Rickae Hewitt-Martin, the founder of Vehdance & Movement, began her dance journey as a young child in Derby. Her early training included ballet, tap, and theatre craft at a local dance school. As a teenager, Rickae became a youth member of ACE Dance and Music in Birmingham, touring internationally and performing with youth companies in Switzerland and across the UK. She also performed with the Derby West Indian Carnival (DWICA) troupe, showcasing her passion for carnival dance from the age of 6. Rickae’s love for contemporary dance flourished during her GCSE studies and attended the Centre for Advanced Training (CAT) programme in Nottingham. In 2017, she pursued professional training at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance, where she gained a first class degree. Since 2021, Rickae has worked as a freelance dance teacher and performer. She is also a performing artist with Yewande103, touring Germany and further developing her international presence in the dance world. Throughout her journey, Rickae has had the privilege of working with esteemed artists such as Alexandrina Hemsley and Vicki Igbokwe-Ozoagu. She furthered her expertise by earning a Master's degree in Dance Movement Psychotherapy from the University of Derby (2021-2023).Through Vehdance & Movement, Rickae integrates contemporary dance techniques, carnival influences, and her expertise in dance movement psychotherapy to offer a unique and impactful approach to dance. She believes in bringing our whole selves into the dance space, embracing multifaceted identities, and emphasising body awareness and authentic movement.
